Shopping for furniture online just got a whole lot easier: Amazon is launching an augmented reality tool that lets you see how furniture and home decor items will look in your home. The best part? With Amazon’s new Room Decorator tool, you can view multiple items at once, so you can basically design a whole room right from your phone or desktop.
In 2017, Amazon rolled out AR View, which let online shoppers see images of furniture in their home with their phone cameras…but they could only view one item at a time. With Amazon’s new Room Decorator feature, you can add and arrange an entire room of furniture, seeing all the pieces at scale. Without leaving the feature, you can also add products to your shopping cart and review recommendations of similar items. You can even save your designs for later and pick up where you left off wherever and whenever you want using mobile and desktop devices.
“Amazon is always exploring new ways to create experiences that delight our customers,” an Amazon spokesperson told House Beautiful in a statement. “With the addition of Room Decorator tools, Amazon enhances its augmented reality feature to give customers an even more immersive shopping experience from the comfort of their own home, or on the go. With access to the inspiring furniture styles available on Amazon, customers can do more than just imagine their dream rooms—they can visualize them to make more informed shopping decisions.”
So how do you access the new feature? Simply click the “VIEW IN YOUR ROOM” button, which will be visible under qualifying products in the Amazon mobile shopping app and on iOS mobile devices and desktop browsers. About 50 percent of Amazon iOS mobile app customers in the U.S. currently have access to Room Decorator, and the rest of the customers will gain access to it over the next few weeks. Then, get ready to redecorate!
