Teenage bedrooms are often the most neglected rooms in the house, but it’s not uncommon for teenagers to have really great ideas about what they would like their own space to look like!

Of course, you should be involved, but don’t forget that your teen may have great insight into what they want as well! Here are some tips on how to include your teen in their bedroom remodel.
Decide on a Fun Theme
The first thing you should do is have a family meeting to discuss your teen’s preferences. Some teens might like clean lines, while others might prefer something more whimsical. It’s important to include them in the decision-making process because they will be living with it every day and they are the ones who need to feel proud of it.
Once you’ve decided on a theme, start gathering ideas for furniture or decorations. You can create mood boards on Pinterest or head out to stores together to see what’s available. When choosing items, consider what type of mood they create as well as their design features and any materials that are used.
For example, if your teen likes to read books before bed, then you could buy an armchair with a built-in bookcase in the back. If they love pets, then think about getting an area rug made from wool so Fido doesn’t get tangled up.
Choosing colors is also an important step. Many people make the mistake of selecting colors without considering how much light is available in the room. With this information, you’ll be able to choose colors that go well with your palette but also ensure there’s enough light for studying late into the night.
Give the Room a Splash of Paint
Incorporating your teen’s color scheme into their room can help make them feel more connected to the space. If you’re looking for a way to include your teen in the design process without spending too much money, try giving the room a splash of paint.
This is a relatively inexpensive and easy way to add some personality. They’ll appreciate it when they move out and want to sell their house! Paint isn’t the only thing that you can change in order to incorporate your teen’s style into their bedroom. Paint also works on things like curtains and furniture, so if your teen has an amazing desk chair or ottoman at home already, consider repainting these items with colors that reflect their interests. Be mindful of any allergies while choosing colors; this will be an added expense but worth it in the end.
Add Vibrant Wallpaper

Remember, these are your kids so the final decision is yours. But at least now you have an idea of what to expect when approaching their vision of a perfect room.
Don’t Forget the Ceiling
Your teen’s bedroom is their space, and it will be for a long time. It’s important to make sure you involve them in the process of designing their space so that they are invested in their room.
